Helping Children and Adults Overcome Fear of Dogs

Supportive, Kind, and Individualised Help for Families, Schools and Communities

Fear of dogs is more common than you might think and it can have a big impact on everyday life. Whether it’s a child who’s scared to walk past a dog in the park, a pupil who struggles at school when dogs are around, or an adult who avoids certain places because of their fear — you’re not alone, and support is available.

I’m a qualified Kids Around Dogs (KAD) professional

As part of the KAD programme, I’m trained to deliver a gentle, proven protocol to help children overcome a fear of dogs. This includes working closely with the child and their family in a way that’s fun, supportive, and always at their pace.

Support for Neurodivergent Children

Every person is different and that includes how we experience fear, sensory input, and new situations. I am trained to work with neurodivergent children, and I tailor each session to suit your child's individual needs.

Whether they are autistic, have ADHD, or experience anxiety, my approach is always calm, respectful, and adapted to meet them where they are. The goal is to build confidence in a safe and structured way, never rushing or pushing beyond comfort.

Adults Can Be Afraid of Dogs Too

Fear of dogs doesn’t just affect children. Many adults carry this fear from past experiences or simply feel unsure around dogs. I offer supportive one-to-one sessions for adults who’d like to work through their fear in a calm and understanding environment.

You don’t need to “just get over it” there is a gentle and respectful way to move forward.

🏫 School & Community Group Talks

These talks are free of charge on the understanding that permission will be given to distribute and leave leaflets and business cards.

Helping children understand and feel more confident around dogs

Dogs are a big part of everyday life, from pets at home to dogs out on walks or visiting schools and community spaces. For some children, being around dogs can feel exciting. For others, it can be worrying, scary, or overwhelming.

I offer interactive talks and workshops for schools and community settings to help children feel more at ease around dogs and understand how to behave safely and kindly with them.

These sessions are designed to:

  • Teach children how to read basic dog body language
  • Show how to interact safely and calmly with dogs
  • Help children understand what to do if they feel nervous or unsure
  • Promote empathy, confidence, and kindness

All talks are age-appropriate, engaging and inclusive, with a strong focus on making children feel safe, heard, and involved. Where appropriate, I can also bring along one of my calm, friendly demo dogs to support learning in a real-life, low-pressure way.

I can tailor sessions for:

  • Primary  schools
  • SEN schools and neurodivergent learners
  • Community groups or after-school clubs

If you’re a teacher, SENCo or parent interested in a school or group visit, I’d love to chat.
